'Bustier' by Thierry Mugler | 2024

Project Type

Costume

Date

October 2024

For Halloween 2024, I decided to recreate Thierry Mugler's iconic 'Bustier' from his Spring 1992 collection, Les Cowboys. This marks my second time remaking one of his designs—and definitely won’t be the last.

I spent several months mentally mapping out how to construct the piece before finally putting my ideas to paper on October 1st. Despite being one of my most complex projects, it ended up coming together surprisingly smoothly. My favorite part was designing the corset pattern to cinch my waist just like a traditional corset. The bustier itself is incredibly lightweight yet impressively rigid, striking the perfect balance between structure and wearability.

One of the details I’m most proud of is the functionality I incorporated—the rearview mirrors are adjustable, and the brake lever can be squeezed. While it doesn’t operate like a real brake lever, the material is flexible enough to allow movement without compromising its integrity.

All in all, this was my second favorite costume I’ve ever made, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
